This may sound like a bad joke, but we’re betting it’s not.
The founders of United Purpose collectively have backgrounds as varied and diverse as the members we plan to serve. And though we came together from different paths, we have all reached the same conclusion along the way: that the most innovative ideas for changing the world are often generated from smart people, sitting around a table talking shop and inspiring each other to take action. While individually looking for our next project to launch, we each began to realize that there were very few places in New York City where highly engaged, purpose-driven people can come to connect, work, learn, and share their insights and ideas with each other. And no, Starbucks doesn’t count. A few fortuitous introductions and long talks later, we decided to launch United Purpose. What we realized was that for each of us, attending TED, CGI, or Summit Series only scratched the surface of the type of engagement and interaction we felt is needed for ideas to collide and partnerships to form. Those 3 or 4 days surrounded by people committed to lasting positive change was not enough to sustain or inspire us year round. We all craved a place that was open 24/7 where you were guaranteed to meet other smart, cool people with interesting stories to tell and cool new ideas to share. Between us, we have all led a life dedicated to helping individuals and organizations achieve their purpose be it through civil service, academia or business. We are excited about the opportunity to harness the breadth and power of our collective networks to do the same for our members and can’t wait to open our doors this fall.
